Biden attacks Trump over the US Capitol brawl on January 6, Commemorating the third anniversary of former US President Donald Trump’s supporters’. January 6, 2021 attacks on the US Capitol, US President Joe Biden slammed Trump. Saying that his potential 2024 election opponent seeks “revenge and retribution,” and that “democracy would be in danger” if he is re-elected. Referring to the forthcoming election, Biden stated that Trump’s re-election campaign is predicated. On seeking “revenge and retribution” against his political opponents.
“On January 6, these MAGA [Make America Great Again] voices who knew the truth about Trump abandoned both the truth and democracy. They made their decision. Now the rest of us, Democrats, independents, and mainstream Republicans, must make our decision.”
If Biden was hoping to stir his half-conscious 2024 re-election campaign into action, this could have done the trick. Trump’s evident hatred cost him ten or twenty years of his life. Keep hating like this, and he might pull a Benjamin Button all the way until election day.
There is no better example of Biden’s transformation. Than the address he gave on the first anniversary of the January 6 rebellion. On that occasion, he blasted a “web of lies” but never named Trump by name, instead referring to the “former president”. He could still elicit a laugh when he said “the former guy” back then.
Biden used the name “Trump”
Two years later, at a speech near Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, Biden used the name “Trump” more than 40 times in less than an hour. Warning that his likely 2024 opponent would forsake American democracy to put himself in power. The 81-year-old president appears to be a grandfatherly character who like to give people the benefit of the doubt. Which highlights his dislike for Trump. Trump’s reluctance to intervene as a violent mob stormed the US Capitol, despite the pleadings of staff and family members. It was “among the worst derelictions of duty by a president in American history,” Biden said. Noting that Trump went on to lose 60 legal battles that forced him to face the facts.
Earlier this week, CNN reported that younger aides on Biden’s re-election campaign were grimly joking about when to go “full Hitler”. Directly comparing Trump to the Nazi leader rather than simply saying Trump “parroted” him. Biden did not go full Hitler, but he did note that “he talks about the blood of Americans being poisoned. Echoing the same exact language used in Nazi Germany.”
Democrats are sometimes chastised for withdrawing punches and refusing to fight dirty like Republicans do. For as long as Trump has been in politics, they have debated whether to rise above him or wallow in the dirt with him.
There will be plenty time to talk about the economy, border security, the climate crisis, reproductive freedom, and foreign policy. Voters will undoubtedly need not only a strong anti-Trump message, but also a constructive vision for another term. Friday was hardly an encouraging start to the new year.
But for now, one thing is certain. The gloves are off, and if Trump gets the Republican nominee, this race will be unlike any other, with warriors abhorring one another.
