Mukesh Ambani, chairman of Reliance Industries, is set to build the world’s largest data center in Jamnagar, Gujarat, which will significantly enhance India’s artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities. This ambitious project will contribute to the country’s digital infrastructure and help position India as a key player in the global AI race. Reliance is also investing in AI technologies by acquiring advanced semiconductors from leading AI developer NVIDIA.

As part of their partnership, NVIDIA will supply Reliance’s one-gigawatt data center with its cutting-edge Blackwell AI processors. At the October 2024 NVIDIA AI Summit, CEO Jensen Huang discussed with Ambani the idea of India manufacturing its own AI, with Ambani highlighting India’s strong digital connectivity infrastructure, positioning it alongside the US and China.

The data center in Jamnagar, with a planned capacity of one gigawatt, will be the largest in the world and is a crucial step in India’s digital transformation. This initiative aligns with the Indian government’s push to bolster the country’s AI and digital tech industries through substantial investments.

Additionally, Reliance Industries reported a 12% year-on-year increase in its net profit for the third quarter, totaling ₹21,930 crore for the period ending December 31, driven by growth in its digital services, retail, and oils-to-chemicals businesses.
